WOR EVENTS WULFSPORT WINTER SERIES RD 4 @ CARROG ISA
Report: Keith Williams Pics CWL PHOTOGRAPHY

"The Wulfsport Winter Hare Scrambles penultimate round took place last Sunday at Carrog Isa in North Wales. The organising WOR Events outfit plotted a weather proof 5 mile circuit that was tough and proper enduro conditions to say the least. WOR are not known for letting the weather beat them and after a week of winds and heavy rains the big mountainside track offered the riders on both 4 wheels and 2 wheels a great winter blast.

Starting the day's racing off first was a 2 hr Quad race, a smaller than the previous quad events turn out made no difference as they blasted off from the ground level paddock area and took on the challenge ahead.

Martin Benbow was the top rider on the day as he seemed to effortlessly float around the tough terrain on his 4 x4 renegade. Not too far behind him was the ever smooth Stephen Williams on the 1000cc Polaris Scrambler with Polaris Britain's own super rep  Richard Coleby in a well deserved 3rd spot.

Chris Nelson made the trip over from Northern Ireland again to take top honours in the Expert class on his Honda 450 and gain some valuable championship points. Local rider John Roberts was in 2nd spot and still getting to grips with his new Yamaha 450.

A special mention goes out to 4 x 4 rider Paul Horwood whom was a pre event favourite but hit his nether regions on the tank on lap one and ended up spending the night in hospital as a precaution. Get well soon Paul as he has some GNCC events coming up soon in the states.

The quad riders all finished with grins on their faces and having enjoyed the muddy and challenging conditions.

After a short break the start line was loaded with nearly 100 riders all set to do battle for the 2 hr race that lay ahead. The Experts had a fine line up of quality riders and they were off like a shot at the drop of the Chief Starters flag at bang on 12 noon.

There were lots of stand out performances but the two Humphreys brothers on the CF Racing Husqvarna's were flying, Never far apart, Owain and Gethin swapped the lead with one another several times during the race and were never more than a few bike lengths apart. Eventually it was 350f mounted Owain that came through as winner by 22 seconds. Another CF Racing Husqvarna, this the 300 cc 2t of WOR supported rider Alex West took a well deserved 3rd spot albeit a lap down on the two Humphreys' boys, with a CF Racing 1/2/3 the local dealership must be happy.
A special mention goes to Lee Sampson who was out on his KTM 2t and going really well in the Expert class with some superb feet up super smooth riding until a snapped chain put paid to his day.

In the Clubman class Paul Engerlen and Ross Davies were having a top battle and really seemed to be making each other go quicker. The experienced Paul eventually taking a 13 second advantage over the youth of Ross come the end of the event. Third spot went to Russ Woolley just short of a minute down on Ross and 5 minutes clear of 4th placed Matt Sylvester. All top 5 Clubman finishing on 11 laps.

The Over 50's class had the day's fastest Veteran in it, CF Racing boss, Gareth Lloyd. Lloyd was on 11 laps and ahead of runner up , Duncan Humphrey with Richard Lewis in 3rd spot. Lloyd's 11 laps was only matched by Over 40's winner, Dean Johnson, Jhonno taking the class win from the always consistent Martin Wells with Rob Pearce in 3rd spot on 10 laps but enjoying every splat of mud that hit him.

The ever Popular Sportsman class had a clear winner, Ryan Cahill taking a very comfortable 3 minute advantage over Runner up Eddie Meek. Meek was impressive though as he rode both days at WOR over the weekend and even travelled back home and back from the venue each day, truly proving he has the commitment and endurance for this sport, well deserved podium place indeed. The bronze spot in class went to young Matthew Mills who was 1.5mins short of  Meek but always there or there about near the podium as usual.

Matthew's dad Andrew took the win in the Sportsman Vets with a near 4 minute advantage over runner up, John Jones and Gareth Jones in third spot but a lap down on the top 2 riders in class.

Sion Jones rode the wheels off his little 85cc KTM to take the victory spoils in the hotly contested Youth class and he pulled 3 minutes over runner up Chloe Richards. Chloe going great guns to pull an eleven minute advantage over her Brother, Declan in 3rd spot. A special mention going to all the Youth riders that battled the Tough conditions and showed true metal on their smaller machines to finish.

Finally in the Novice class it was Ben Key as the victor as he did his penultimate race in the Novice group befor a move up to Sportsman  that took the win from Luke Hadwin and Dafydd Edwards in 2nd an d3rd place respectively

Once again and as expected of the WOR Events team the event ran like clockwork with a good mix of everything and a well planned winter event that took on and defeated the nasty January weather.

WOR would as always like to thank the medics, caterers, all staff, land owners etc but most importantly the riders for supporting th events and making them happen.

A very busy period lies in wait now for the WOR team as the next event is a RED funday and a Sunday 2 race special for the final round of this Wulfsport Winter Hare Scrambles series at the weatherproof Cowm Quarry in Rochdale on the weekend of 31st JAN / 1st February followed by the week after a very special brand new quarry venue in North Wales on 6/7th February for a RED saturday funday followed by the Super popular TOUGH ONE'S LITTLE BROTHER mini extreme event on the Sunday....A fun and doable extreme for all levels' of riders..
