France took the first step in pursue of the third consecutive victory in the World Trophy after getting the best time in the overall at the end of the initial day of the International Six Days of Enduro 2014, which is taking place this week in San Juan. The French team was followed by the United States and Australia, while Argentina holds the sixth position. Australia, on the other side, is dominating the Junior World Trophy and Women World Trophy.
The first of the six days of competition in this 89° ISDE featured French riders Pierre Renet (Husqvarna) and Christophe Nambotin (KTM), who were the fastest in five of the six timed tests on Monday, carrying their national team to the top of the classification in the World Trophy, the most important category in the “Six Days”.
The six drivers in the “les bleus” finished the six tests on Day 1 in 4:13.14; 1.19 over the United states. Australia, with Matthew Phillips (KTM), winner of the first test of the day, holds the third place, despite the loss of Daniel Miller (Yamaha), who injured his hand and had to retire.
Among the teams in the Junior World Trophy, Australia is leading with an overall time of 2:37.12, closely followed by France, Sweden and the United States, all of them within one minute.
The Women World Trophy, is dominated by the Australian team which, with Jesica Gardiner (Sherco) and Tayla Jones (KTM) dominated each of the tests, although Jones was then penalized with 26 minutes as she entered the last two time checks after her due time. In this way, the United States appears second 5.19 behind the leader and Canada completed the leading three.
At the end of Day 1, Nambotin is leading E1 with an advantage of one minute over Marc Bourgeois (Yamaha), while Jeremy Tarroux (Sherco) completes the French trio dominating the highest class in individual classifications. Renet is leading E2,followed by Phillips, 38 seconds behind, and by American rider Kaliub Russel (KTM) who appears a little over one minute behind the leader. Class E3 is leaded by Australian rider Toby Price followed by US Team rider Taylor Robert, and the Spanish rider Iván Cervantes, all of them on a KTM.
Argentina and a great start as the local
The hosts had a good start representing Argentina both in the World Trophy category, where they got a sixth place, and in the Junior World Trophy, where they finished Day 1 on the seventh place.
With Kevin Benavides (KTM) as the fastest, the national team finished the six tests in 4:30.14; 17 minutes behind France in the fight for a victory in the main category. Argentinean riders were able to overcome the initial nervousness and as the time went by they started to gain rhythm and finished in a good position to face the rest of the week, only 2.19 behind Germany, which holds the fifth place.
On the other side, Nicolás Kutulas (KTM), was the strongest among the Juniors, and he was crucial for the 2:48.27 clocked by the local team. This record places them in the seventh position, 11.15 behind Australia.
Tomorrow the action continues
The second day of the competition will be held tomorrow and it will repeat today´s layout. They will be four different tests – two of them used twice – going across the west of San Juan province, surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of Ullúm and El Zonda. The first bike will leave the Paddock at Estadio Bicentenario at 7:45am (local time), while the first test will start at 8:12 am for Day 2 at ISDE 2014.
TC1/5: From the Paddock of the “Estadio Bicentenario”, take RN40 up to Circunvalación Av. Then take José Ignacio de la Roza Av towards the west for 10 km approx. up to Loma Negra.
TC2/6: From the Paddock of the “Estadio Bicentenario”, take RN40 up to Circunvalación Av. Then take San Martín Av. towards west for 7 km approx. up to Galindez. Then take RP14 towards Las Tapias up to the starting point.
TC3: From the Paddock of the “Estadio Bicentenario”, take RN40 up to Circunvalación Av. Then take San Martín Av. towards the west for 7 km approx. up to Galindez. Then take RP14 for 10km towards Las Tapias up to the starting point.
TC4: From the Paddock of the “Estadio Bicentenario”, take RN40 up to Circunvalación Av. Then take José Ignacio de la Roza Av towards the west for 27 km approx. (it becomes RP12) up to Cerro Blanco.
